Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 Max Puts Flexible Space at the Center of the EREV SUV Race

Xiaomi's SkyNomad N90 Max is set to debut as a large seven-seat extended-range SUV, putting flexible cabin space, EREV packaging and family-use practicality into focus.

Joann·Jul 29, 2026

Xiaomi Auto's second vehicle series, SkyNomad, is moving from teaser cycle to product-stage attention. The company has scheduled a technical launch for July 30, 2026 at 7 p.m. Beijing time, with the SkyNomad N90 Max and N70 Max expected to formally appear as the first two large-space extended-range SUVs under the new line.

For the used-car market, the important point is not only that Xiaomi is entering the EREV SUV segment. It is how the N90 Max is being framed: a large seven-seat family SUV where interior flexibility, flat-floor packaging and long-distance usability are being presented as core value, not just supporting features. That changes how future buyers may compare large SUVs, especially in markets where electric range, fuel backup and cabin practicality all matter at once.

N90 Max is positioned as a large seven-seat flagship EREV SUV

According to ITHome, Xiaomi's July 30 technical event will focus on the Kunlun technology architecture, including the Kunlun platform, Kunlun Super EREV system and Kunlun safety system. The same report identifies the N90 Max as a large seven-seat flagship extended-range SUV, while the N70 Max is positioned as a large five-seat four-wheel-drive extended-range SUV.

The N90 Max had already appeared in China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology filing coverage earlier in July. The filing information cited by ITHome shows a vehicle length of 5,285 mm, width of 1,998 mm and wheelbase of 3,080 mm for the N90 Max. The regular version is listed with a height of 1,825 mm, while the camping-oriented version with a pop-up roof reaches 1,925 mm.

Those dimensions put the N90 Max squarely in the large SUV conversation. But Xiaomi's messaging suggests that size alone is not the selling point. Lei Jun has described the N90's "7+7" layout as the ability to seat seven passengers while still carrying seven pieces of luggage. If that promise holds up in real-world use, it would place cargo usability and third-row comfort at the center of the model's identity.

The flat-floor question matters more than it sounds

Large SUVs often look roomy from the outside, but interior packaging is where many of them become compromised. Battery placement, fuel tanks, four-wheel-drive hardware and structural safety requirements all compete for space. Lei Jun has said that creating a flat floor in an extended-range SUV is difficult because the vehicle must balance driving dynamics, ground clearance, a large battery, a fuel tank and four-wheel-drive components.

That detail is worth watching because it links engineering directly to second-hand value. A vehicle with a genuinely usable third row, a flexible seating layout and a flat cabin floor can remain attractive to family buyers for longer. A large SUV that only offers impressive exterior size, but awkward interior packaging, can lose appeal quickly once owners start using it for school runs, airport trips or long-distance travel.

EREV packaging may become a new comparison point for used SUVs

The MIIT filing coverage lists the SkyNomad models as gasoline-electric plug-in extended-range hybrids, with a 1,499 ml range-extender engine and a top speed of 190 km/h. ITHome also reported battery and range-related filing details, including a 76 kWh battery specification for some N90 and N70 versions.

For buyers outside China, extended-range SUVs are gaining attention because they sit between pure EVs and conventional gasoline models. They can offer electric daily driving while keeping a fuel-based backup for longer trips or markets where charging infrastructure is uneven. That does not automatically make every EREV a better used-car choice. It does mean buyers will need to check more systems: battery health, range-extender service records, charging compatibility, software status and local parts support.

The N90 Max also shows how lifestyle features are becoming part of the technical package. The camping version, according to filing coverage, includes a pop-up roof, roof bed board and related outdoor-use equipment, with the roof function limited to parked use on non-public roads. These details may look niche, but they reflect a broader shift: large SUVs are being designed for family travel, mobile work, camping and social use, rather than only for seating capacity.

Why this matters for the used-car market before deliveries begin

The N90 Max has not yet reached the stage where used-market pricing can be judged. Still, the launch already gives dealers and future buyers a framework to watch. Early demand, delivery speed, software stability, battery performance and service feedback will all shape whether the model becomes a durable used-car candidate or mainly a first-wave new-car story.

Xiaomi already has a visible presence in China's near-new used EV market through models such as the SU7 and YU7. On Guazi's used Xiaomi Auto page, current listings show low-mileage Xiaomi vehicles, including YU7 and SU7 variants, with inspection information and FOB pricing. That matters because a strong near-new supply channel can make a new brand easier for overseas buyers to evaluate once more models enter circulation.

For the N90 Max specifically, the used-car question will be practical: does the large cabin stay useful after daily family use, does the EREV system prove easy to maintain, and do the flexible-space features remain reliable after repeated movement? Those questions will matter more than launch-day excitement.
