Dodge Hikes Charger EV $12,500 and Brings Back V8 Hellcat

Article OverviewDodge raised the 2027 Charger Daytona EV by $12,500 and confirmed a V8 Hellcat return. The all-electric muscle car experiment has officially been walked back.

Dodge raised the 2027 Charger Daytona Scat Pack EV price by $12,500 over the 2026 model (autoevolution, MSN) and on the same day confirmed a 2027 Charger Hellcat with V8 power and a rumored 700+ hp return (AOL). The 2027 Durango will also be V8-only with no price increase (TFLcar). Viewed together, these announcements point to a single conclusion: the all‑electric muscle‑car experiment has been quietly shelved.

The decisions, decoded

When Dodge launched the Charger Daytona EV, the pitch was that an electric muscle car could be both faster and more emotionally satisfying than the gas Hellcats it replaced. The 0-60 acceleration numbers delivered. The customer demand did not. Eighteen months later, Dodge is doing three things at once: pricing the EV out of the volume zone (a $12,500 hike is not a normal model-year increment), bringing back the badge that defined the brand for the last decade (Hellcat), and keeping the Durango on V8 without raising the price (signaling the V8 platform is profitable, not a legacy cost).

A $12,500 hike on a year-old EV is not "carmakers absorbing cost." It is a deliberate move to push buyers toward the V8 alternatives Dodge is reintroducing in the same lineup. If the EV had sold to plan, Dodge would protect its price point to defend share. They are not protecting it.

The bigger pattern this slots into

This is the same week Ford resurrected the Fiesta as an EV (because small cars work as EVs), Audi launched a €600,000 hybrid Nuvolari (because flagship supercars are choosing hybrid over pure EV), Lamborghini defended delaying its first EV, and Audi confirmed the Q7 will stay PHEV. Dodge is the fourth data point on the same trend: the powertrain decision is now segment-specific, not company-wide. Small commuter and small performance = EV. Premium flagship and emotional/heritage/muscle = hybrid or ICE.

For markets that import used American muscle — the Middle East, parts of Latin America, North Africa — Dodge keeping V8 alive means used Charger and Durango inventory will continue to flow with the powertrain those buyers actually want. The brand spent two years telling customers the future was electric. This week, it told them the future has a V8 in it.

Guazi exports used SUVs into markets where V8 reliability and parts availability still drive purchase decisions (browse models company facts).
